Doctor Who

"Grandfather, I think we've landed!" Susan was excited and she grabbed the Doctor's arm. "Hmmph," he said. "Do you think we'll discover some new and undiscovered alien race, Grandfather?" "Hmmm. Heh," he replied. Susan opened the door to the TARDIS and bounded out. The Doctor said, "Tsk tsk," and checked the radiationometer to see if it was safe. When it failed to move into the red danger area, he tutted and made his way outside. Susan rushed over to her Grandfather, to show him her latest discovery. "Look! It glows in the light! What could possibly make it do that?" "Hmmmm ..." Before he could reply, Susan was off, looking around the new planet. The flowers of the planet Flora were gorgeous. Susan was in awe for the scenery around her. Many of the flowers were of the glowing kind like she'd shown her Grandfather. She had quite a bouquet of flowers in her arms already when she heard a strange noise. "Grandfather!" she shouted. "Huh?" he replied. "I think there's something else with us! I heard a growl or something." "Ah," he said, about to explain the ecology of the planet to her. Susan suddenly screamed, shutting off his ecology lesson for the afternoon. "It's alive Grandfather! That plant is moving toward us!" Sure enough, the plant before her was moving, it's leaves waving menacingly at her. "Arrrrrrrrrrrgh!" the Doctor shouted as a plant attacked him from behind. |
"Grandfather!" Susan struggled with the plant that was attacking her. She got free, just as one of the flowers opened up and showed its sharp pistils at her. "I'll save you, Grandfather!" she yelled as she ran to save him. Susan tripped over a root that was half buried in the undergrowth and fell down. "Oh no! I think I've twisted my ankle." "Mmmmmmph," was her Grandfather's reply. He was completely covered in plant growth and being pulled towards another large flower with even sharper pistils. Susan carefully got up, favoring her ankle. She just HAD to save her Grandfather. Suddenly she saw it -- her Grandfather's cane, lying just outside of his reach. She lurched for the cane. A vine snapped at her, so she dodged her hand back. When the vine seemed to ignore her again, she lurched again, this time getting the cane. She howled as the weight of her body was put on her bad ankle, but she filed the pain away for later -- her Grandfather needed her. "I'll save you, Grandfather," she whispered. She heard his familiar cough almost as a reply. She took the cane in her hand and began to beat the flower with it. The other plants around the Doctor began to move away from him. When he was free enough, he stood up. "Tut tut," he said. He was about to thank his granddaughter, but she then collapsed from the pain in her ankle. Susan awoke in her room in the TARDIS. Her ankle was still sore, but it felt much better. She got up and then hobbled to the console room. "Grandfather!" she said as she entered. The Doctor was startled and dropped the crucial piece of instrumentation that he was working on. He groaned at all that work lost. Susan was oblivious to his anguish and came over to hug her Grandfather. "We got out of that mess, didn't we. Who would have thought that plants could be so vicious?" "Heh," he said. Then he looked seriously at Susan. "Ahem," he began, about to remonstrate to his granddaughter that she should not take appearances for granted, but she interrupted him. |
"I guess it just goes to show that you shouldn't take appearances for granted. The place looked so beautiful. Who would have guessed that it could be deadly?" The Doctor smiled at his granddaughter. "Uh huh," he agreed. |
